MT990 rotary microtome features a motorized, programmable, automatic trim providing a reproducible, consistent cutting speed. With an accelerated return stroke and adjustable cutting zone, the MT990 effortlessly cuts paraffin, plastic, and hard specimens. The advantages of the motor drive can also be used to reduce the strain of repetitive, high output histology sectioning. Optional Binocular Microscope Accessory with Backlighting Accessory. Optional cryo attachment (CR1000) permits sectioning from +40°C to -160°C.
In conjunction with the CR1000, the MT990 becomes the world’s only cryo microtome for light microscopy, capable of preparing large area rubber, polymer and biological samples. Ideal tool for cryosectioning polymers, rubbers, and films for optical and FTIR transmission microscopy, as well as cryo-planing sample surfaces for AFM and SEM. Diamond and glass knives can be placed in the rotatable knife holder. The CR1000 is equipped with independent temperature controls of the knife and specimen.
The PowerTome is the only fully upgradeable ultramicrotome, with the ability to take a PTXL, the routine workhorse, and build it up to the PTPCZ research level system with computer control and HD video options. The PowerTome is capable of accommodating glass knives up to 12mm wide, triangular tungsten carbide knives, and any commercial brand of diamond knife. Various add-on components for array tomography and cryo applications are also available.
The PTPCZ features a high definition video package where the sectioning process is displayed in real-time at the center of the computer monitor. Equipped with a computer control interface, the PTPCZ enables the viewing and recording of the sectioning process in full HD for future viewing and use. All control functions can be activated by touching the control monitor screen, or by mouse, while maintaining use of the tactile digital controller.
The PT3D features a full 1 mm of advance, permitting uninterrupted, ultra thin, sectioning to a depth of one millimeter. This unique advantage is especially beneficial for 3D reconstruction work, array tomography, and any situation where high amounts of precision specimen trimming are involved. ATUM capable of collecting very large sets of serial sections (30,000+) in an unattended and computer controlled operation, to help reconstruct the brain’s neural pathways — a precursor to one day mapping the entire human brain. The ATUM is connected to and controlled by RMC Boeckeler’s PowerTome ultramicrotome, to form the ATUMtome (Automatic Tape Collecting Ultramicrotome). Section thickness can range from 0nm to 15μm.
Advanced 3D reconstruction and tomography are growing in use in today’s EM world. Rapid freezing and Freeze Substitution are one method of making cellular structure and organization appear closer to the natural state but this process can limit other avenues of investigation, such as immunohistochemical applications.
